Russian state TV really wants you to watch Putin's press conference

Russian president Vladimir Putin is holding an annual press conference and address to the Russian people today.

The event has become something of a notorious Christmas tradition for journalists, with Putin's lengthy answers meaning it can go on for hours.

But Russian state TV is really, really keen on everyone in Russia watching the whole thing, judging by this blockbuster trailer for the event.

The preview, which would put Hollywood to shame, features explosions, missiles being fired, a smouldering Ukraine and some of the year's biggest events and news stories, including Ebola and the rise of the so-called Islamic State.

"A year of tough decisions and long-awaited victories," Putin says in one segment.

Comparisons have been made online between the clip and the trailers for the Terminator films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"The bear never asks permission from anyone," Putin says in the trailer. "He will never give up his forest to anyone."
