Stormy Daniels was folding laundry and listening to Taylor Swift during Donald Trump’s Oval Office address

Donald Trump addressed the American people from the White House and spoke at length about the Mexico border wall.

The speech was controversial and a number of publications, including the Washington Post fact checked his claims, while others criticised his characterisation of the border issue as a "crisis".

US Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called him a racist.

It was a wild night, but just not because of Trump.

Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress who claims to have had an affair with the US president and accused him of trying to pay her off to keep her quiet, offered an alternative to his speech.

Writing to her 899,000 Twitter followers, she suggested:

If you’re looking for anything even remotely worth watching tonight at 9pm EST. I will be folding laundry in my underwear for 8 minutes on Instagram Live.

The cherry on top of the cake was the 39-year-old's choices of song.

She listened to Taylor Swift's 'We Are Never Getting Back Together', alongside Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick in the Wall' and Tom Petty's 'I Won't Back Down'.

Talk about tongue-in-cheek.

People online were loving it.

Others thought her eight minutes were more honest than the US president's address...

Daniels ended her broadcast by eating a bag of Cheetos, a seeming poke at Trump, whose complexion is often compared to the bright orange crisps.

Democrats have accused the US president of "misinformation and malice" after he declared a "humanitarian and security crisis" on the border.

Daniels brings some much-needed levity to America. The US government has now been shut down for 19 days as Donald Trump tries to push through funding for the infamous border wall. He's demanding $5bn to fund the project, with the Democrats refusing to move from their $1.6bn, which they previously negotiated in Congress.
