The advice former students have for freshers is not what you expect

British adults who have been to university have the following advice for freshers: break up with bae and hit the vodka.

According to a YouGov survey of 1,649 respondents, more respondents thought this was good advice than the opposite.

The respondents who went to university and lived on or near campus were asked to choose between two pieces of advice and recommend which was better.

To see the full survey responses, see the interactive chart below:

66 per cent advised avoiding extra debt than taking out an overdraft and 62 per cent advised having a “core group” of friends over trying to make as many as possible.

Among the least popular pieces of advice were having no-strings sex (10 per cent) and experimenting with drugs (13 per cent).
