Weeks have passed since the US election and Trump has still not formally conceded.

His lack of concession and continued attempts to undermine the results of the election had some wondering whether he might need to be dragged out of the White House kicking and screaming.

But, in a slight change of heart, the president has now offered some indication that he might go ahead with an orderly departure.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Trump said that he’d actually leave the Oval Office if Biden is certified the election winner by the electoral college.

This isn’t quite the admission of defeat some were hoping for but it’s the closest thing to a concession since he told the General Services Administration (GSA) to begin the formal transition process earlier this week.

When asked whether he’d leave the White House if the electoral college vote confirmed a Biden victory, Trump replied: “Certainly I will and you know that.”

He added: “If they do, they’ve made a mistake.”

Trump also admitted that it would be “a very hard thing to concede.”

Online, people were shocked, confused and frustrated.

People were eager for Trump to leave the White House sooner than promised

Some people weren’t impressed with this half-hearted gesture

There were those feeling thankful that he might leave the White House soon

Others had trouble trusting Trump

These people really want a more dramatic ending to the Trump presidency

Better start packing, Trump. There’s not long to go until the electors meet in mid-December.
