Last night, Donald Trump congratulated the US women's soccer team for winning the Women's World Cup, and how did the internet respond? It called for Megan Rapinoe to be president.
In the final of the tournament, co-captain Megan Rapinoe led the US women's team to beat the Netherlands 2-0, storming to victory for the fourth time. Megan Rapinoe and Rose Lavelle scored the goals it took to secure victory, which resulted in them being awarded the Golden Boot and the Golden Ball respectively.
In response, Donald Trump took to Twitter to congratulate the team, however, it obviously didn't go down very well.
In a tweet, he wrote:
Congratulations to the US Women's Soccer Team on winning the World Cup! Great and exciting play. America is proud of you all!
A feud has been raging between the president and the women's team ever since video resurfaced from a January interview, in which Rapinoe said that she would not visit 'the f***** White House'. Teammate Ali Krieger later came out and said she'd stand by Rapinoe in skipping the White House visit, while Alex Morgan said the team would make that call together.
It goes without saying that Trump's tweet wasn't particularly well received, with many pointing out how awkward it was.

Speaking after the match, Rapinoe also took the opportunity to criticise FIFA for scheduling three finals - including the Women's World Cup - on exactly the same day.
Speaking to reporters, Rapinoe explained how she felt the team's game should have been given exclusive attention, just like a world cup final would have been if it was a men's game.
In a press conference, she said:
That's a terrible idea to put everything on on the same day, in every way.Â
Especially... There are two other finals going on but this is the World Cup final, this is like, cancel-everything day.
So no, I don't know how that happened... I think I heard somewhere that they just didn't think about it... which is like, the problem.Â
