Mark Francois is self-publishing a Brexit memoir called ‘Spartan victory’ so he’s obviously getting roasted

A man known in part for campaigning for Big Ben to bong for Brexit has announced he is writing a book about his role in the Brexit saga and unsurprisingly people are taking the mick.

Tory MP Mark Francois even said that his book “Spartan Victory: The Inside Story of the Battle for Brexit” was rejected by 24 publishers who he accused of Remain bias, leading him to self-publish it on Amazon instead.

Speaking on the Telegraph’s Chopper’s Politics Podcast, Francois said: “In a nutshell, the problem was that the orthodoxy within the publishing industry is very, very much ‘Remain’.

“I got some nice compliments about the book and the writing, but it became fairly evident after a while that no publisher wanted to publish.

“So in the end, that’s why I decided to go down the self-publishing route.”

The publication reported that the memoir, which costs £25, has already had the backing of Cabinet minister Jacob Rees-Mogg who said: “If you voted for Brexit, you really ought to buy this book.”

And Francois added he had high hopes for his memoir, adding that if “0.1 per cent of the people who voted for Brexit bought the book, that would be 17,400 sales”.

He said: “I was told ‘there is no market for this anymore. It’s all a few years ago. No one is going to buy this book’. Well, I’m very much hoping your readers might prove those people wrong.”

Hmm. Reacting to the news, people didn’t exactly rush to pre-order their copies of the book, and they were a bit uncertain about his claims of the “Remain establishment” blocking the book as well:

Now we know what we want for Christmas.
