ABBA have come out in support of Greta Thunberg's 'climate SOS' and it's the ultimate climate change dream team

ABBA singer Bjorn Ulvaeus has thrown his support behind Greta Thunberg, describing the teenage climate activist as a girl with "superpowers".

In a video message, he described the 16-year-old, who started her school strikes outside the Swedish parliament last August and has become a figurehead of the global climate movement, as a "populist's nightmare".

The singer said he couldn’t understand where the animosity towards her comes from. He said:

How can you stoop so low as to criticise the looks of a child? A young girl.

The reason is of course the lack of counter arguments.

The comments are undoubtedly a swipe at right-wingers everywhere, including Katie Hopkins, Julia Hartley-Brewer and Piers Morgan, but also world leaders including presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, who have mocked or belittled the teen activist.

Given that Thunberg has declared a climate “SOS”, perhaps it’s unsurprising that the ABBA hitmaker is behind his country’s newest star.

He's also not the only one - a Swedish rock band recently turned Thunberg's UN speech into a death metal song.
