Barack Obama is going on holiday for two weeks with his family in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, and his summer reading has been revealed.
The reading list of the most powerful man in the world, obtained by ABC News, is as follows:
1. Washington: A Life, by Ron Chernow
The winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Biography. Ron Chernow provides a portrait of the father and first president of the United States.
2. Between The World and Me, by Ta-Nehisi Coates
A New York Times bestseller, the book is Ta-Nehisi Coates’ attempt to answer pivotal questions surrounding America’s racial history in the form of a letter to his adolescent son.
3. All The Light We Cannot See, by Anthony Doerr
Winner of the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for fiction, a novel about a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths cross in occupied France during the Second World War.
4. The Sixth Extinction, by Elizabeth Kolbert
The Sixth Extinction takes on field reporting and history to compel us to rethink the fundamental question of what it means to be human, and how we are treating our home.
5. The Lowland, by Jhumpa Lahiri
Shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and National Book Award in 2013, Lahiri’s second novel is a wide-ranging story of two brothers bound by tragedy.
6. All That Is, by James Salter
Salter’s novel follows the experiences of a young man, ranging from battles off Okinawa, a career as a book editor in New York and a struggling search for love.
