Tom Hanks gives everyone the feels after crying at the Golden Globes

The legendary actor, Tom Hanks received the 2020 Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes on Sunday and broke down in tears while paying tribute to his family.

The star is winning rave reviews for his performance as American icon Mr. Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Marielle Heller’s heart-warming follow-up to Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Upon receiving the gong, the Forrest Gump icon said:

A man is blessed with a family sitting down front like that, a wife who is fantastic in every way, who has taught me what love is, five kids who are braver and stronger and wiser than their old man is.

Hanks’ wife, Rita Wilson, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and underwent a double mastectomy so it’s no surprise that the actor might feel emotional when reflecting on the importance of his family.

His expression of raw emotion gave everyone the feels.

The speech was the antithesis of Ricky Gervais’ hosting style and there was a glorious moment early in the night when Hanks’ reaction to the opening monologue spoke for many in the room.
