11 (NSFW) things we learned from the AMA of a man who lost his penis

Reddit user Penisindoor is set to become one of the first people in the world to get a penis transplant, a highly experimental operation.

He's done an AMA ('ask me anything') on Reddit about it, inviting internet users to question him on his plans - and explaining why he needs a transplant. Here's what we learned:

1) How he lost his penis

This explains the username. Aged 12, he put it through a crack in a door and told a friend "c'mre and give it a little kiss". His friend then slammed the door on it, an action he claims to have instantly known would be "earth shattering".

2) He can still laugh about it

He writes that months after the accident, his father told him. "I bet you won't do that again". In the words of one Reddit user, this is the ultimate Dad joke.

3) He is still friends with the man responsible

He said that his friend probably felt worse than him, adding: "I actually still feel bad that he's had to endure the thought of making a huge change in someone's life."

4) He can still have sex and masturbate

In his words "any loving couple can be intimate". As for masturbation, "I still have part of my shaft under there which still has nerve endings. Use your imagination for the rest".

5) He thinks his relationships have not been affected

Not "in the slightest".

6) There are advantages to losing your penis

"I [never] had to worry about going up to the chalkboard with an erection."

7) He tried to get in contact with the Reddit user with two penises who also did a NSFW AMA

"I sent him an IM. He never responded. I was joking around that he could lend me a spare, lol."

8) He describes growing up as different, yet normal

"Homework, chores, fights with the family. Pretty much normal, just lacking a penis."

9) It may take years to find a viable match

He needs to wait for a genetic match, which could take months or years, or could even never happen. Then when it does, his body may reject the organ.

"I had to sign a pretty good sized [non-disclosure agreement]. I can't even tell people which doctors/hospitals/medicines/foods.

10) Then there's the psychology

We can only find one other case of a man getting a penis transplant, in China in 2006. While the operation was a success, surgeons removed the penis after 15 days "because of a severe psychological problem of the recipient and his wife".

11) How he plans to celebrate if it does work

With a helicopter.
