Channel 4 has pushed back the Great British Bake Off series eleven premiere so that it doesn't clash with Boris Johnson's televised address.

A spokesperson for the network confirmed to indy100 that the new series will now begin at 8:15pm this evening, quarter of an hour later than originally scheduled.

Johnson will address the nation at 8pm, laying out the new coronavirus restrictions he told parliament earlier today could last six months.

These include a 10pm curfew for pubs and restaurants and a ban on large weddings and indoor sports involving more than six people. The prime minister also urged office workers to work from home – a U-turn on his 'back to work' messaging – and announced harsher fines and penalties for people breaking the rules.

The news that Bake Off and the prime minister's announcement would clash sparked anger and accusations that the government has "lost touch with its people".

People aren't too thrilled he's forced it to move, either.

The (once simultaneous) starting times sparked lots of government–GBBO comparisons.

And forced people to assess their priorities.

Let's hope that Johnson's waffling doesn't push the GBBO start time back any later. That would just be the icing on the cake.
