'Idiot Box' photos show the dark side of technology

In a bid to "explore the darker side of our love for technology", Donna Stevens took a series of photos of children as they stare blankly at a television.

The series of eight children looking utterly transfixed in front of a screen has been named "Idiot Box" by the Australian photographer who hopes to display the images at a gallery in New York.

Stevens told i100.co.uk that she was inspired to create this series after watching her son's interaction with the family iPad, "which slowly somehow became his iPad".

In revolt against my years as an art director in advertising, where I created images that offered up a false promise of perfection; my work now endeavours to explore the realities of life.

TV is just one of the ever present black screens through which we negotiate our lives today. Idiot Box hopes to explore the darker side of our love for technology.

The series was an exploration into the co-dependent yet contradictory relationship we all share with technology and the media.
