Jeremy Corbyn didn’t win the general election. But his meteoric rise - from a leader disliked by his own party, and rating as the second most unpopular leader of any major opposition party in modern history less than a year ago – has been spectacular.
The Labour Party defied the odds to win 40.3 per cent of the vote this week. This is an increase of 10 percentage points of its national share of the votes. The party also took six London seats in London from the Conservatives.
This success makes a tweet from Corbyn in 2011 – more than four years before he was elected as Labour leader – all the more cute.
And people are retweeting and replying to it.
Man of the people Corbyn wrote:
999 people 'like' my fanpage, can anyone push it over the 1000 mark by suggesting to your friends?
And, well, this, basically:
His Facebook page now has more than 1,200,000 likes.
More: Jon Snow admitted 'he knows nothing' after Corbyn's election result, and he's getting a lot respect
