A ban on smelly food has been suggested for New York’s subway – and now Londoners are calling for the same.

Joe Lhota, NYC’s transport boss, said that hot food should be banned on the subway after a passenger ate a Chinese takeaway near him, and made a mess.

Once news had spread some Londoners were keen, people took to Reddit to rage:

Such it the potency of this issue, that some of the language used is NSFW.

It’s not the first time there’s been talk of a food ban on the tube, either.

In 2015 the BBC reported that the Conservative peer Lord Sherbourne argued that passengers found it offensive when people ate on the tube, and that it was a health hazard.

​Thankfully, TFL has confirmed that no such ban is being considered.
