John Oliver's children's book about a gay rabbit is outselling Mike Pence’s children's book about a straight rabbit

John Oliver's gay reimagining of the Pence family's children's book about their pet rabbit Marlon Bundo is currently outselling the original in the Amazon charts.

Given Vice President Mike Pence’s controversial political views, which have been the focus of criticism from women and the LGBT+ community, comedian John Oliver decided to publish his own version of Marlon Bundo’s A Day in the Life of the Vice President.

It currently sits at number two on the Amazon reading list, at time of writing. The audio book of John Oliver's version, read by Jim Parsons, is at number one, while Mike Pence's original comes limping in at number three, the Huffington Post reports.

Oliver, alongside Last Week Tonight writer Jill Twiss and illustrator E G Keller created Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents a Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo.

Aside from the fact that the rabbit in his book wears a tie, there is one more crucial difference.

Bundo the rabbit is gay.

Also, our story is about Marlon Bundo falling in love with another boy rabbit because our Marlon Bundo is gay.

Now, if Amazon reviews area anything to go by, Oliver’s version is far more popular of the two. Both books had an average five star rating, but Oliver's book boasts more than 4,000 reviews compared to Pence’s 101.

Of Pence's book, one person wrote:

The thought of owning this book and putting money anywhere near Mike Pence and his family makes me sick. I’ll return this book instead and buy the John Oliver book to support things that I care about.

On Oliver's review page, another wrote:

This one by Jon Oliver is soooo much better than the "other version".

A third praised Oliver for giving all the proceeds from the book to LGBT+ charities like The Trevor Project and AIDS United.
