These earthquake-proof beds are the stuff of nightmares

Chinese inventor Wang Wenxi's earthquake-proof beds have garnered attention after a bizarre video of just how they work surfaced on YouTube.

While there are few circumstances more terrifying than waking up in the middle of an earthquake, perhaps waking up in the middle of an earthquake to find yourself swallowed by your own bed could be considered one.

The bed will eat up its occupant when an earth shaking natural disaster strikes, and keep them "safe" with a vast supply of water, oxygen tanks and tinned food until given the okay to emerge again.

But how they actually escape from "safety" is a question left unanswered...

One thing is for sure, you won't be seeing these sleep prisons in Ikea anytime soon.
