This is a real advert

It may seem difficult to believe, but this is a genuine advert from an oil company published in the 1960s.

It was published in Life magazine in February 1962 on behalf of Humble Oil (now part of Exxon).

Underneath the picture of a melting glacier, the text reads:

Each day Humble supplies enough energy to melt 7million tons (sic) of glacier. The giant glacier has remained unmelted for centuries. Yet, the petroleum energy Humble supplies - if converted into heat - could melt it at the rate of 80 tons each second!

Let's just be glad we've come so far...
