On Saturday, Donald Trump was the recipient of a particularly cutting prank.
Trump Tower, the President-elect’s residence and skyscraper-hotel on New York’s 5th Avenue, was given a new name on Google Maps:
Dump Tower.
A search on Google Maps for Trump Tower comes up as Dump Tower... cause google is passive-aggressively awesome.… https://t.co/CBu8E4Lj1f— Amee Vanderpool (@Amee Vanderpool) 1480217332
People on social media quickly noticed the re-christening
DUMP TOWER! 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 https://t.co/lt29VYtWhy— G (@G) 1480208149
But not everyone was impressed...
@google Wow. Dump tower? Disappointing. Name calling is juvenile and bullying. Shame!— Anne (@Anne) 1480234438
Google quickly noticed the prank, and changed the name back to the original.
A Google spokesperson told BuzzFeed News:
Some inappropriate names were surfacing in Google Maps that should not be, and we apologize for any offense this may have caused.
The identity of the person or people responsible for renaming the tower is at present unknown.
We can only imagine how Donald feels about it.
