Two headlines that show what it's like to be a famous woman in 2016

A BBC journalist compared the way the Daily Mail and the corporation wrote about a young actor. It doesn't look very good for one of them.

Mark Savage pointed out some differences in the way each news team covered Hailee Steinfeld's visit to the UK.

On Tuesday the Pitch Perfect 2 and True Grit actress, who is also a singer and model, arrived in the country to promote her new film Edge of Seventeen.

In coverage of the press junket, the BBC pointed to improved coverage of women in the media.

The Daily Mail, ever at war with Auntie Beeb, proved them wrong with their headline on the same visit.

Savage shared the comparison on Twitter.

The Daily Mail's headline reads:

Nice.

Later in captions, the paper notes 'Stylish: The pretty youngster sizzled as she flashed her black bra in a sheer nude shirt'.

By contrast the BBC coverage included quotes from Steinfeld. Because you know, she has agency and human thoughts. Imagine.

Speaking about roles for women, the Oscar-nominated actor commented:

Female characters are beginning to have more of a say in the meaning of the film

For the Daily Mail, it seems this is only happening on screen, not in real life.

To their credit, they wrote a follow up on Wednesday... breaking news that her friend Taylor Swift uses a WhatsApp group to keep in touch with 'the squad'.
