A London pub was broken into in the early hours of Sunday morning, and has turned it into a savvy marketing strategy.

The Artillery Arms, located between Moorgate and Old Street, usually looks like this:

But the pub was the victim of a break-in, which they described to their Facebook followers in a post:

Don't you just hate when people come to visit after you've gone to bed! Big thanks to the Met for their speedy response time and to the brave actions of 'Chris the Cabbie' who drove the wrong way up Bunhill Row after noticing the guy scoping the area and then hearing the alarm.

The pub manager, Tony Bennett, told indy100 that a single perpetrator broke in through the door at 4am on Sunday:

It was actually a pane in the door that they smashed in, the alarm went off when they turned the latches on the inside.

He said that nothing had been taken, but Tiger, the resident cat in the pub, had been startled. Tony also had to cancel a planned half marathon in Reading on the Sunday.

The accompanying photo also showed that a new sign stood outside the pub the day after, written by Tony, which read:

This pub is so good that someone tried to get in eight hours before we open.

The photo was posted to Reddit's r/funny subreddit, where it received over 5,000 upvotes in only two days.

When life gives you lemons, win the internet. Well played Tony.
