Trump's beloved Fox News is totally obsessed with Ocasio-Cortez, according to this study

Since being elected to the House of Representatives in last year’s midterm elections, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has become one of the most talked about figures in US politics thanks to her outspokenness and progressive approach.

But it’s not just Democrats who are obsessed with the freshman congresswoman – according to a new study, conservative news network Fox News can’t stop talking about her either.

Ocasio-Cortez retweeted the research by liberal watchdog Media Matters for America (MMA), which found that Fox mentioned her more than 3,000 times in six weeks – an average of 75 times per day – and not a day went by where she wasn't brought up.

MMA researcher Courtney Hagle called the coverage “obsessive” and “relentless”, while the report also makes frequent references to AOC being “mocked” by Fox or instances of her views being “distorted” by the news network.

It claims that: “Ocasio-Cortez is brought up constantly, even if the topic has nothing to do with her. [...] Hosts and guests smear and misrepresent [her] agenda, caricaturing it while painting it as radical, dangerous, far-left socialism.”

Her followers were quick to point out that her progressive ideas – such as her backing a Green New Deal – and the support she’s received may well scare the right-wing Trump base that makes up much of Fox’s viewership.

Donald Trump – who has mocked Ocasio-Cortez’s policy ideas in the past – has also praised Fox and positioned it as the antidote to news outlets such as CNN and MSNBC which he claims are “fake news”.

At a rally last year, he referred to a number of Fox hosts as “the guys that we love”.

The president often tweets clips of Fox shows in seeming endorsement of their content:

It’s not the first time Fox has been called out for its seeming obsession with Ocasio-Cortez. Last November, before she even took her seat, the network held a four-person panel discussing her shoes.

The congresswoman quote-tweeted the announcement along with the Spanish lyrics of Aventura’s 2002 hit 'Obsession'.
