Democrat superstar Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shared a photograph featuring a number of brand new, diverse US congresswomen.
The 29-year-old congresswoman-elect from New York, who made history as the youngest woman ever to have been elected to office, shared the Vanity Fair photograph with pride – and we’re so here for it.
The portrait features some of the country’s most prominent history-making women in Ocasio-Cortez’s party.
Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Deb Haaland, Veronica Escobar and Sharice Davids were all featured in the photo.
She captioned the celebratory photo, which was taken on Wednesday: "We’re in the building. Swearing in tomorrow."
It presents a new wave of Democrat politicians: They’re non-white, they’re women, they’re LGBT+ and they’re powerful. Each of the six women have been stitched into the fabric of history.
Pressley will become Massachusetts’ first black congresswoman; Omar will be the first hijab-wearing member of the House; Haaland and Davids will be the first indigenous women in Congress; Davids will also be the first openly LGBT+ person to represent Kansas.
Ocasio-Cortez’s followers are loving the photo and what it means.
One proud Instagram user wrote: "Beautiful colors [sic]. Progress is slow, but it comes. Good luck beautiful ladies and thank you! Us."
Another added: "This picture is so inspirational. #girlpower."
A third supporter revealed: "I am 75 and all I can say is IT’S ABOUT TIME!!! You go girls!!!!" And another gave a celebratory roar: "Representatives that are representing."
In short, this is the ultimate in #SQUADGOALS.
