Trump says it doesn't matter if Cohen is right because 'I was allowed to do whatever I wanted'

Trump says it doesn't matter if Cohen is right because 'I was allowed to do whatever I wanted'

To put it lightly, Donald Trump has a lot on his plate at the moment.

Not only is he surrounded by other world leaders at the G20 summit in Argentina, but his former lawyer also pleaded guilty after admitting that he lied during a report about Trump's business dealings in Russia during the 2016 election.

Cohen's dramatic confession left Trump noticeably rattled when he appeared before the media outside the White House yesterday, shortly before flying to the G20.

Defiantly, Trump claimed that Cohen was trying to reduce his prison sentence by "making up a story" which he has every right to believe, however, he managed to put his foot in it by continuing to talk and trying to save face.

It’s very simple — he’s got himself a big prison sentence and he’s trying to get a much lesser prison sentence by making up a story.

Now here’s the thing: even if he’s right it doesn’t matter because I was allowed to do whatever I wanted during the campaign.

I was running my business, a lot of different things during the campaign.

Yeah, Donald, we're not entirely sure if it works like that.

Not long after Trump said that, Twitter was awash with people who were flabbergasted at the ignorance that the president had just displayed.

The project in question was the construction of a Trump Tower in Moscow, which Cohen admitting to working on until June 2016, which was after Trump was confirmed as the Republican nominee.

Cohen added that discussion with Russia was concluded when they realised the project wasn't feasible, but did declare that Trump knew about the deal, with Cohen also engaging in a 20-minute phone conversation with Vladimir Putin's press secretary in January 2016, and sending an email to Russian president's spokesman.

Judging by Trump's Twitter output today, he is taking the news quite well.
