Israeli and Palestinian leaders shake hands for first time in five years. And also get massively photobombed

In the past two months tensions between Palestinians and Israelis over the status of the Temple Mount have escalated into violence that some fear could lead to a third intifada.

At least 20 Israelis have died, many in 'lone wolf' stabbings, while 96 Palestinians have been killed, mainly by Israeli security forces.

Against that backdrop, it was encouraging in the extreme for those who desire to see a return to normalcy and eventually peace that the prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the president of the Palestinian National Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, shook hands while attending the Paris climate change talks.

According to Haaretz it is the first time the two men, who only had the prime minister of New Zealand, John Key, standing between them, have shaken hands since 2010.

Sadly, Ikililou Dhoinine, president of the Comoros, didn't quite get the memo about the potentially significant moment taking place behind him.

A very undiplomatic photobomb indeed.
