Meghan McCain commented on ‘legacy admissions’ and everyone made the same point

America is still reeling from news that the US college system has been infiltrated by admissions bribery scheme. The scheme has so far resulted in the arrests of 50 people, including Desperate Housewives actress Felicity Huffman.

Since the news broke that wealthy individuals have been accused of using bribery to get their kids into elite colleges, there’s been a lot of public conversation about the advantages that money can buy. While some feel this dynamic is a problem, Meghan McCain, daughter of late senator John, decided to stick up for the real victims: rich kids.

In response to comments about discriminatory nature of “legacy admissions”, she said during an appearance on The View:

My family goes back generations at the Naval Academy. And that’s service to your country, so I would push back on that part of it because my grandfather, great-grandfather, my brothers all served their country.

I don’t think there’s anything to be ashamed of with my family’s legacy at the Naval Academy, my father’s buried there.

Co-host Joy Behar responded:

I’m not talking about your family! I’m talking about the policy of where legacy admissions came from.

It was to keep non-white people, and Jews probably, out of the colleges.

Twitter was quick to notice the irony of Ms McCain commenting on "legacy admissions" - a subject she seems to know well.

Do you want some ice for those burns?
