Emmanuel Macron brought a tree sapling from France to the White House as a gift to mark his friendship with Donald Trump.

In a ceremonial dig, Trump and the French president took a couple of shovels and, along with Melania Trump and Brigitte Macron, planted the European Sessile Oak on the grounds of the White House.

In a tweet, Macron said that the oak was selected to celebrate the American soldiers who had once fought for France.

100 years ago, American soldiers were fighting in France, in order to defend our freedom.
