A professor has gone on a rant about 'little Caucasian a**holes' ruining his neighbourhood - Harlem, in New York City.

The twist? He's white himself.

James Livingston, a Rutgers University History professor, lost his cool in Harlem Shake West 124th Street, New York, after encountering some children running about the burger joint when he was trying to eat his dinner.

He voiced his frustrations in a rant on Facebook, which has since been deleted, reports the New York Post.

OK, officially, I now hate white people. I am a white people [sic], for God’s sake, but can we keep them — us — us out of my neighbourhood?

He continued on his rant:

Slide around the floor, you little s***head, sing loudly, you unlikely moron. Do what you want, nobody here is gonna restrict your right to be white.

Professor Livingston was so disgusted by his race, that he announced his desire to 'resign' from it.

I hereby resign from my race. F*** these people. Yeah, I know, it’s about access to my dinner. F*** you, too.

Soon after he finished his rant, it was removed from Facebook for 'violating community standards on hate speech'. Since then, he's posted a number of follow up posts, documenting the fallout from the post.

I've just been told by FB that my rant v, white people makes me dangerous, socially media speaking, even though I'm a white people, or person, or whatever.

In a follow up post, he tries to further explain his frustrations with white people:

I just don't want little Caucasians overrunning my life, as they did last night.

Please God, remand them to the suburbs, where they and their parents can colonise every restaurant, all the while pretending that the idiotic indulgence of their privilege signifies cosmopolitan - you know, as in sophisticated "European" - commitments.

In a final post, he says that Facebook won't let him 'post about the mostly hilarious email messages I've received since Friday'. He says that about 30 said he's racist, and three promised 'bodily harm'. He continued one even left him a phone message.

One guy even left me a phone message, which I took as a warm and personal approach to the matter.

And the designations! "Racist F*** stain" is my fave so far. Let's see if this goes through.

The rant has garnered a range of responses, from those who find it funny, to those who are offended, and those who are quite frankly bemused.

Writing in The Root, journalist Angela Helm wrote:

There has long been a debate on what makes a gentrifier a gentrifier (e.g., can they be black? Is it not about race but money? It is about attitude), but I must admit I’m speechless on this one.
