A blimp featuring the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, wearing a yellow bikini has been given permission to fly over the capital.

The balloon is intended as a protest over the giant Donald Trump baby blimp that was allowed to fly in London during the president's UK visit in July.

The protest, which has been organised by Yanny Bruere, who is originally from Northampton but now works as a sales development rep in Barcelona, raised more than £58,000 through a crowdfunding campaign.

The 29ft-long blimp will take to the skies on 1 September after being granted permission by City Hall, the police and air traffic controllers NATS.

A description on the campaign's crowdfunding page explains that not only is this a counter protest to the Trump balloon, but also the overall job that Khan has done as mayor so far.

In light of the Donald Trump 'Baby Trump' balloon being allowed to fly over London during his visit to the UK, let's get a 'baby Khan' one and see if free speech applies to all and whether or not Mr Khan and the London assembly will also approve this.

Under Sadiq Khan, we have seen crime skyrocket to unprecedented levels. People in London don't feel safe and they aren't safe, 81 murders this year alone! Khan Out.

Any surplus money raised will be used for a continuing campaign to remove Sadiq Khan from office and also for defending free speech which is constantly under attack.

In response, Kahn has encouraged people to go and see the balloon, but isn't sure whether he will be donning the bikini himself.

He is quoted by BBC News as saying:

If people want to spend their Saturday looking at me in a yellow bikini they're welcome to do so.

I don't really think yellow's my colour though.

A spokesperson for the mayor added:

As always, City Hall has been working in very close coordination with the Metropolitan Police and other key agencies to ensure this protest is able to be carried out in a safe and secure way.

After it was confirmed that the blimp will be allowed, opponents and critics of Khan and supporters of Trump began sharing the news.

In contrast, others have admired the way Khan has handled the situation.

Some people love the thought of seeing Khan in a yellow bikini.

These are also a very good point.
