Donald Trump, the billionaire US presidential hopeful, has seen a meteoric recent polling rise which we just can’t even begin to fathom.
In the most recent ABC News/Washington Post poll, Trump has 24 per cent among Republican voters, ahead of Scott Walker (13 per cent) and Jeb Bush (12 per cent).
Since he announced his candidacy on 16 June, and annoyed Neil Young in the process, he’s made a few enemies along the way, including gay people, the country of Mexico and most recently John McCain (and by association, the armed forces).
Attacking McCain for being taken prisoner during the Vietnam War was seen by many as a new low for Trump, but amazingly his poll numbers seem to be holding up, even if the majority of the most recent polling was conducted before he said McCain was "not a war hero".
In fact it seems that the more inflammatory Trump gets, the better he does in the polls...
The one glimmer of hope is that it will be virtually impossible for Trump to win the Republican nomination, however, as candidates drop out during the process and their votes go to more moderate picks.
But the fact remains that The Donald is riding high in the polls right now.
