Knuckles won’t be ‘sexy’ in the new ‘Sonic’ movie, says Idris Elba

Sorry folks, actor Idris Elba says that Knuckles in Sonic The Hedgehog 2 won’t be “sexy.”

In the legendary SEGA series (a Japanese video game developer), the spiky-fisted red echidna initially appears as opposition in the third game when Dr. Robotnik tricks him into thinking Sonic is attempting to steal the Master Emerald.

Eventually, the duo partner up and consider each other as adversaries and pals.

Knuckles is a bit of a hermit type of character, but his loyalty is unmatched, and he is one of the most ferocious fighters on Angel Island.

Considering Elba’s roles in Luther and The Suicide Squad, he is an excellent match for the determined and serious Knuckles— just don’t count on him to bring the “sexy” to the role.

Next year, Elba is set to make his debut as Knuckles, with comedian Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, Ben Shwartz returning as Sonic, and James Marsden as Tom Wachowski.

In a recent conversation with Screen Rant, the acclaimed actor didn’t give away too many details about the Sonic sequel and said, “Contractually, I cannot say anything.”

Despite that, Elba did speak on a particular detail about his voice performance: sex appeal would ultimately be out of the window for the character.

“But I wouldn’t say he was sexy. I don’t think I’m going for that. That’s for sure,” Elba told the outlet.

People who are fans of the Sonic universe had some mixed opinions about the matter.

“Idris Elba you are a goddamn liar. Knuckles is one sexy mofo,” someone wrote.

“Unfortunately, it is not up to Idris Elba whether or not people think knuckles is sexy,” wrote Palmer Haasch of the Internet Insider.

Someone else shared similar sentiments to Elba and wrote the following: “Well, I kinda figured. I mean, it’s Knuckles. He’s supposed to be gravely and tough, so I can see why Idris Elba avoided doing that.”
