The majority of French cities have "no-go zones" for non-Muslims, while parts of Britain are run under Sharia Law, Nigel Farage has claimed.
Really.
In a bafflingly-inaccurate interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity, Farage cited the lack of prosecutions for female genital mutilation (FGM) in Britain as an example of "Muslims" going into countries and creating "Sharia courts", despite FGM being a cultural/geographical issue rather than part of Islam, and the Muslim Council of Britain saying the practice is un-Islamic. He went on:
We even, a few years ago, had some quite clear examples where the immigration services were actually allowing women to come into Britain from Pakistan and elsewhere to join polygamous marriages, something that is against our law.
So wherever you look, wherever you look you see this blind eye being turned and you see the growth of ghettos where the police and all the normal agents of the law have withdrawn and that is where Sharia law comes in. It got so bad in Britain that our last Archbishop of Canterbury, the leader of our Church, actually said we should accept Sharia law.
- Nigel Farage
We cannot find these examples of polygamous spouses being illegally allowed to settle in Britain by immigration services, so i100.co.uk has asked Ukip to provide some. And Rowan Williams didn't quite say that.
That's not the only inaccuracy: the French embassy told the Guardian Farage's claims about no-go zones were as "wide of the mark" as Steve Emerson's much-mocked assertion that Birmingham is a Muslim-only city.
