Woman in palace praises Christmas spirit of ordinary people

During her annual televised address, the Queen will highlight the achievements of ordinary people from the comfort of the Regency Room of Buckingham Palace, which is one of 775 rooms in the building.

The room was chosen over 18 other state rooms and 52 royal and guest rooms, while Buckingham Palace also contains 188 staff bedrooms and 78 bathrooms.

She will tell the country to draw inspiration from "ordinary people doing extraordinary things" in the face of forthcoming challenges, while wearing a jade silk dress and a pearl and diamond brooch:

I often draw strength from meeting ordinary people doing extraordinary things: volunteers, carers, community organisers and good neighbours; unsung heroes whose quiet dedication makes them special.

They are an inspiration to those who know them.

Last month it was announced that the palace would undergo a £369 million refurbishment to ageing cables, boilers and pipes, during which time the Queen will remain in residence - presumably showing the kind of stoicism she hopes to see in the country.

The message will be transmitted at 3pm on Christmas Day, at which time The Big Bang Theory is on E4 if you wanted to flip over.
