White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci has been fired only 10 days into his job by the incoming Chief of Staff John F. Kelly. His escorted departure from the White House took place just days after Scaramucci himself was widely thought to be the force that drove out Kelly's predecessor, Reince Priebus.

It's all a bit confusing - here's a rundown:

Scaramucci was named Communications Director on 21 July. During his short tenure he was divorced from his wife, missed the birth of his child and called up a New Yorker reporter to attack Priebus as a "paranoid schizophrenic" and said he was not like Chief Strategist Steve Bannon because:

I'm not trying to suck my own c***.

He didn't realise that he, in calling up a reporter and not saying he was off the record, would be likely published for his sensational quotes.

He also inspired a Siri easter egg for his name's likeness to the lyrics of Bohemian Rhapsody.

Either way, Twitter reacted to the news of his departure with humour - in truth, he'd not been around long enough to be well-loved.

And then, the joke that absolutely everybody thought of at the same time, it seems:

What a time to be alive.
