Actor, director and general nice guy Tom Hanks has once again given the gift of a brand new coffee machine to the bleary eyed, and mostly likely highly strung, White House Press Corps.

The star originally bought the White House Press Corps a coffee machine during the Bush administration and proceeded to replace it with another brand new machine in 2010.

Now it seems, the actor has decided it was time for another upgrade, when a brand new machine miraculously appeared overnight.

In the world of alternative facts, bowling green massacres and late night Twitter rants I imagine the old machine had probably experienced some heavy use.

The Hill report that the brand new coffee machine was spotted in the break room of the White House along with a note.

The Hill's Jordan Fabian tweeted:

The caption below the image reads:

Fresh, spirited American troops, flushed with victory, are bringing in thousands of hungry, ragged, battle-weary prisoners.

The message from Mr Hanks below that reads:

To the White House Press Corps

Keep up the good fight for Truth, Justice, and the American Way.

Especially for the Truth part.

Tom Hanks

It doesn't take a genius to realise that Hanks is clearly alluding to current President Donald Trump when he refers to 'the Truth'.

Trump has waged a bitter vendetta against the likes of the New York Times and broadcasters CNN, accusing them of being purveyors of 'fake news' on a regular basis.

At one point, the former property tycoon and reality TV presenter accused the media of being the 'enemies of the people,' a chilling sentiment that is usually reserved solely for dictators.

So well done Mr Hanks - on behalf of journalists everywhere we thank you for your kind support.

And if you ever want to drop into the indy100 offices, you know you're more than welcome.
