They were all, at one time or another, used as contraceptives, according to a video from EngenderHealth's WTFP?! (where's the family planning) campaign which provides an eye-opening insight into the history of birth control.

It also points out that right now there are more than 220 million women around the world who want access to family planning but cannot get it.
