After 47 days, Ferguson police chief finally says sorry

The police chief in Ferguson has apologised to the parents of Michael Brown, the black teenager whose shooting by an officer prompted the worst race-related unrest in the US in decades.

Thomas Jackson released a video in which he said sorry to the 18-year-old's parents and also the protesters who faced a heavy-handed police response when they took to the streets after his death.

Wilson meanwhile remains on paid leave and has not been charged with any offence.

No one who has not experienced the loss of a child can understand what you're feeling. I am truly sorry for the loss of your son. I'm also sorry that it took so long to remove Michael from the street.
