Andy Murray awkwardly drops a commemorative plate at a presentation ceremony in China

Andy Murray had a bit of a moment in China.

The world renowned tennis player was left red-faced when he accidently dropped and smashed a special commemorative plate gifted to him in honour of his contributions to the sport in China.

Murray was posing for a photograph with the plate when it slipped out of its box and smashed on the floor.

The 31-year-old put his head in his hands and apologised profusely as officials dashed to pick up bits of the plate.

Somebody gets you a present and you drop it? C’mon Andy.

It appears to have been smoothed over though, if his cheeky post on Instagram is anything to go by.

"Woops," he wrote.

Bleak.

The tennis player stood around looking meek and embarrassed for a few seconds before people ushered him away from the broken bits of plate.

The tennis jokes flew down on swift wings...

Others merely laughed at his misfortune.
