Arnold Schwarzenegger met Greta Thunberg, and it goes without saying that photographic evidence of the meeting has left the internet in meltdown, oh and has sparked a whole host of Terminator jokes. Excellent stuff.
The 71-year-old actor cum Republican senator met the 16-year-old climate activist while in Vienna, Austria, on the "R20 Austrian World Summit". Taking to Instagram, he shared a photograph of himself alongside the activist, with the caption:
I have to admit, I was very starstruck when I met Greta Thunberg.
We don't blame you, Arnie. We would be, too!
It goes without saying that the meeting of two such iconic figures left the internet in a bit of a state, with many sharing how excited it all made them feel, and others really going to town with the Terminator references.
Ah, the obligatory Sarah Connor reference.
@Schwarzenegger @Darth_Lehrer @R20_AWS @GretaThunberg Finally you found the real Sarah Conner who is saving the world, congratulation!— Nico 💾 (@Nico 💾) 1558988365
This sounds like a line from the Sarah Connor voiceover in T:2 but it’s actually not.
The real quote is:
Watching John with the machine, it was suddenly so clear.
The Terminator would never stop.
It would never leave him.
It would never hurt him, never shout at him, or get drunk and hit him, or say it was too busy to spend time with him.
It would always be there. And it would die to protect him.
Not even trying
Too many Terminator references in one tweet
@Schwarzenegger @R20_AWS @GretaThunberg Dear T800, please help us in trying to stop the climate change final judgment day.— juan carlos medina (@juan carlos medina) 1558971414
OK… kinda obvious, but not that obvious. This actually isn’t too bad.
@Schwarzenegger @R20_AWS @GretaThunberg Greta to @Schwarzenegger , -come with me if you want to live!— XL-Studios (@XL-Studios) 1558969196
Grammatically this one doesn’t quite work though
@Schwarzenegger @R20_AWS @GretaThunberg Did she say "Come with me if you want to live." to you? 😉— ☣ (@☣) 1558983070
HERE WE ARE!
Actually, almost a slogan we can get behind
@Schwarzenegger @R20_AWS @GretaThunberg Time to terminate the climate emergency. Crack On, Mates!— Michael Keenan (@Michael Keenan) 1559008516
Obviously, it wouldn’t be the internet without a horrific face swap
@Schwarzenegger @R20_AWS @GretaThunberg Fixed. https://t.co/VcbGp43r1U— Votre quota d’ami gros (@Votre quota d’ami gros) 1558996216
And finally, the man that said what we were all really thinking…
@Schwarzenegger @R20_AWS @GretaThunberg Excellent suit, by the way! 🦋— 🟥Doktorhulk 💘Lobau🧨#NoCovid💖#Jahnsportpark (@🟥Doktorhulk 💘Lobau🧨#NoCovid💖#Jahnsportpark) 1558978663
This isn't the first time Schwarzenegger has made the headlines of late. On May 18, an unknown man assaulted Schwarzenegger during a public appearance in South Africa, Johannesburg, by taking a flying leap and kicking him on his back.
The 71-year-old seemed unfazed, however, and he quickly recovered. Speaking to gathered reporters, he quipped:
I'm just glad the idiot didn't interrupt my Snapchat.
Arnie, never change.
