Boris Johnson’s motorcade of vehicles was spotted going the wrong way down a one-way street and it’s become the latest in a string of memes using humour to make sense of the political situation in England.
Matt Chorley, editor of The Times Red Box shared a picture from Sky News on Twitter in which Boris’ car and a procession of others along with police escorts can be seen heading down a road that has rather obvious white arrows pointing the other way.
He captioned the photo:
Boris Johnson's motorcade going the wrong way down a one-way street. He's not big on the laws, is he?
People quickly pointed out that he had a police escort, and he probably wasn't the one actually driving...
BBC reporter Laura Kuenssberg was one of the first to get in on the jokes
...And the image was striking enough to become a metaphor for all things British politics
The jokes came swiftly
The prime minister returned earlier from New York and the UN Summit after 11 judges unanimously voted that his plan to suspend parliament for five weeks in the lead-up to Brexit was "unlawful."
