A suspected capitol rioter sent an email to the FBI and it massively backfired

An alleged participant in the Capitol riots has haphazardly placed himself in hot water by backpedalling on his whereabouts during last week’s violent breach.

FBI agents have been investigating the attack on the Capitol for over a week now, where some police reactions to the riots have been criticised as lacking.

They managed to trace  Kevin J. Lyons back to Chicago after following his Instagram activity. His account had featured a post of Nancy Pelosi’s office from the handle @chi_hvac that didn’t stay up for very long.

When presented with the short-lived post, he is allegedly said to have been impressed, replying: “Wow you are pretty good. That was up for only an hour.”

Soon enough he was assisting the FBI in their investigation. Despite denying involvement in the Capitol attack, he sent a video he recorded from inside of the Capitol, potentially implicating himself in the process.

He wrote:

Hello Nice FBI Lady, Here are the links to the videos. Looks like Podium Guy is in one of them, less the podium. let me know if you need anything else. Kevin Lyons.

Lyons had previously refused to give a direct answer on whether he partook in any violence. But he later admitted he was at the attack and insisted that he saw nothing being damaged.

Regardless of what actually happened, he left a post active on his account illustrating the trip he would be making from Chicago to DC anyway.

Not smartest move.
