An alleged Capitol rioter has been turned in to the FBI by an ex-girlfriend after he branded her “a moron”.

According to court documents, Richard Michetti texted his former partner on the day of the deadly insurrection and told her: “If you can’t see the election was stolen you’re a moron.”

He added: “This is tyranny. They say there and told us ‘we rigged the election and there’s nuthin you can do about it’ what do you think should be done?”

Along with his texts, the Donald Trump supporter also sent a string of incriminating selfies and videos – so she promptly passed them on to authorities to prove he was part of the mob on January 6.

Five people died in the riot, which followed a pro-Trump ‘Stop the Steal’ protest to coincide with Congress certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.

There is no evidence to suggest the election was ‘rigged’ or ‘stolen’ from Trump, and various far-fetched legal bids to overturn the result were rejected by the courts.

Michetti is charged with knowingly entering a restricted building, violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. If found guilty, he faces up to 20 years in jail.

Some of his text messages were sent while standing on the steps of the Capitol, the FBI said.

“It’s going down here. We stormed the building they held us back with spray and teargas and paintballs,” he wrote at 2:06pm local time, shortly after Trump urged his supporters to march to march to the legislature.

He was later identified in other photos and footage from the scene, the Washington Post reported.

Michetti, from Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, appeared in court via video link and will do so again on Monday.
