People are defending the Loch Ness Monster after Donald Trump Jr compared Nessie to Biden

Twitter has a message for Donald Trump Jr: leave Nessie alone!

Speaking at the first night of the Republican national convention on Monday evening, President Donald Trump’s eldest son referred to Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden as the “Loch Ness monster of the swamp.”

Painting the Biden as a hardcore-leftist, Trump Jr claimed Biden would heavily tax Americans to pay for his programmes if elected.

“Biden has promised to take that money back out of your pocket and keep it in the swamp,” he said.

That makes sense though, considering Joe Biden is basically the Loch Ness Monster of the swamp.

The speech caused Loch Ness monster to trend on Twitter, with more than 13 thousand people talking about it as of Tuesday. The monster, known colloquially as “Nessie” is said to inhabit a lake in the Highlands in Scottish folklore.

First of all, many took issue with Trump Jr’s mixed metaphor. “ Fwiw, the Loch Ness monster doesn’t actually live in a swamp,” Jonah Goldberg tweeted.

More importantly, people came to the defence of Nessie’s character and did not appreciate the politicisation of the mythical creature (who is known for being very hard to spot).

Tara McKelvey summed it up: “Why is Donald Trump Jr trying to demonise the Loch Ness monster? In *Scotland, or so I’m told, she is considered to be a fairly benign creature that people just really want to see.”

Justice for Nessie!
