Yesterday, the Washington Post reported that Donald Trump revealed classified information to Russia about Isis in the Oval Office.
The story whipped up a scandal as it alleged that Trump passed on information to the foreign minister of Russia that was provided by a US partner under a sensitive information sharing arrangement.
It was reported that Mr Trump did not have permission of the partner to share this information with Russia.
National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster said in a statement outside the White House yesterday:
The story that came out tonight as reported, is false.
I was in the room. It didn't happen.
Donald Trump has discredited that statement by tweeting this morning:
Which is slightly awkward.
Especially when you revisit an old tweet by Donald Trump on the campaign trail.
Even Republican speaker Paul Ryan agreed at the time:
Donald Trump's approval and net approval ratings make him the least popular President of the United States in modern history.
What a time to be alive.
