Kent Fire and Rescue has released a spoof of the cult classic Dirty Dancing, in effort to remind the public to test their smoke alarms.
Under the slogan, 'Keep having the time of your life' (a reference to the soundtrack's signature tune), two firefighters perform the dirty dancing routine first done by Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.
At the end, watch manager Joanne Gilham was lifted in the air by firefighter Nathan Pavey, a la Grey and Swayze, so that Gilham could press the test button on a smoke alarm.
The spoof clip was tweeted out on Saturday.
Nobody puts fire safety in the corner! Keep having the time of your life – test your smoke alarm weekly… https://t.co/6PXF7raoUe— Kent Fire and Rescue Service (@Kent Fire and Rescue Service) 1507972354
Kent First and Rescue called it a 'simple but serious message', and urged the public to test their smoke alarms regularly.
Iain Thomson, the service's head of community safety told the BBC:
We really want people to make it part of their weekly activity.
If you have difficulty reaching for the smoke alarm then you could use a broom handle or ask a relative or neighbour to help.
These life-saving devices are vital in every home,
