Bishop defends claims gay people exist because pregnant women enjoy anal sex

The Bishop of Morhpou Neophytos recently suggested gay people exist solely because women have anal sex during pregnancy.

He has now doubled down on the remarks, his most ill-advised move since the original comments.

For those out of the loop, here's what he originally had to say while speaking at a primary school in Cyprus. Yes, a primary school.

[Homosexuality is] a problem, which is usually transmitted by parents to the child. It happens during the parent's intercourse or pregnancy. It follows an unnatural sexual act between the parents.

To be more clear, anal sex. [Saint Porfyrios] says that when the woman enjoys that, a desire is created, and then the desire is passed on to the child.

You might have thought, having been ridiculed far and wide, the Greek Orthodox leader might have backtracked slightly.

Instead, he has said:

I expressed the position of the Church and the position of the saints.

Which feels a little bit like the worse defence of anything ever but, sure.
