People across the UK woke up to the news on Monday that overnight, our Olympic champions managed to skyrocket to second place in the medals table.

Strong performances in cycling, rowing, gymnastics, golf and track events over the weekend saw the UK manage to overtake giants such as China and Russia to reach almost the top of the league table.

We're currently on 15 gold medals, and 38 overall.

Those medals just kept on coming - Britain is guaranteed at least one more gold in sailing today.

And we, the people, are loving it.

In the home games of 2012 the UK finished in an impressive third place, with 29 gold medals and 65 overall.

With six days to go, we are on track to beat the team's total target of 48 - and maybe do even better this time around.
