Groundhog bites mayor during Groundhog Day celebration

Legend dictates if a groundhog can see its shadow when it comes out of its burrow on February 2 then winter will last for six more weeks. If it is cloudy spring will come early.

Each year Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania has the largest Groundhog Day celebration - and on Tuesday Pennsylvania-based groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, forecasting six more weeks of winter.

Nearly 800 miles away in Wisconsin, Sun Prairie's official groundhog Jimmy bit the mayor's ear during the celebrations. Mayor Jonathan Freund flinched briefly and then carried on with the ceremony like a pro, predicting an early spring.

Only time will tell whether Jimmy or Punxsutawney Phil is right.
