In news that could only seem vaguely at home in 2020, fashion model Gigi Hadid has been revealed to be one of the potential jurors at the rape trial of film boss Harvey Weinstein.

Hadid was seen in the group of potential jurors entering the courtroom in New York City. She reportedly told judge James Burke that she had met Weinstein and she knew Salma Hayek, who has accused Weinstein of sexual harassment and aggression. Hadid is also known to be a friend of Cara Delevingne, who has publicly shared her own alleged experiences with Weinstein in a hotel room.

Although knowing the defendant and accusers makes it very unlikely that Hadid will be a member of the jury, when Burke asked she could be an impartial juror, she said:

I think I’m still able to keep an open mind on the facts.

Weinstein has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him, including rape and predatory sexual assault.

Last week, Weinstein was almost sent to jail for using his cellphone in the courtroom, as the judge threatened to revoke his bail if he didn’t stop using it.

Since court proceedings have got underway, activists have protested and demonstrated outside. It is unclear when the final jury will be selected or when the trial will begin.
