Heartbreaking video shows husky chasing car after owner abandoned it by side of road - now he’s been arrested

A 68-year-old man from Texas has been arrested for animal cruelty after he abandoned his pet husky on the side of the road.

The heartbreaking video was filmed by a fellow dog rescuer and has since gone viral across social media platforms, with one clip reaching 1.2 million views.

It shows a man on the side of a road in Horizon City, a suburb of El Paso, while the driver sits waiting in the SUV. He is seen removing the leash from his pooch before getting back in the car, leaving his husky behind.

In a heart-wrenching moment, the abandoned dog can be seen chasing the car in an attempt to unite with his owner.

People rushed to the comments to express their sympathy for the abandoned husky. One said: “The poor baby – thank God someone was there to save it. Thank you and that fellow dog rescuer for all you do.”

While another Instagram user projected their anger about the person responsible: “That’s f****** low. I have no idea how people can do something like this. It’s so wrong”, they said.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has since taken to Facebook to announce the arrest of Luis Antonio Campos with a bond set at $5,000.

“These crimes against our voiceless animal victims are taken seriously and we actively seek to hold suspects accountable for these cruel acts”, they said.

The husky was rescued and taken to Huckleberry Hound Dog Rescue, a nonprofit animal rescue organisation. Fortunately for the abandoned dog, he got his much-deserved happily ever after when a family adopted him within 24 hours.

The family, who renamed their new addition, Nanook, told KFOC: “I think he’s doing us an active kindness by completing our family.”

“He’s not lost anymore”, they added.

Nanook’s welcome home was that extra bit special as he was greeted with a life-sized banner at his new home.

We do love a happy ending.
