It's every child's worst nightmare - something horrifying and deadly in the toilet, just waiting to attack from (ahem) behind.

Spare a thought for Isac Mcfadden of Abilene, Texas.

He actually found a rattlesnake in his toilet bowl.

According to KXVA Isac said: "I found this big clump and I knew it was snake!"

His mother, Cassie Mcfadden, sent Isac's brother to fetch a shovel in order to kill the animal.

Cassie is quoted by CNN saying: “I was just like, what do you do with this? What do you do with this? I don't know!”

When the Big Country Snake Removal technician arrived, he reportedly found 24 Western diamondback rattlesnakes, a venomous species responsible for the second-greatest number of snakebite fatalities in the U.S..

There were snakes in the cellar, snakes under the house, baby snakes, and of course the toilet dweller...

It was veritable smorgasboard of snakes.

According to the company's Facebook page, the snake had found its way in from an opening in a relief pipe that was later sealed.

Rattlesnake are secretive and can be very cryptic - they rely heavily on their camouflage. This is simply how they survive.

Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they aren't there....
